What is the Global Water Crisis?

Today, roughly 2.2 billion people lack access to water that is safe to drink. The water sources that are available to many of these people are often located miles away from them, and are typically laden with bacteria, parasites, and fecal matter. However, because there are no other available sources of water, this contaminated water is continually consumed to avoid death by dehydration. This humanitarian crisis is especially pronounced in some of the world’s poorest nations, and will continue to get worse if nothing is done about it. Learn more about it here and here.

What is the Walk for Water?

The Walk for Water is a simulation of the journey that millions of women and children must make every day to collect water that is not clean or safe to drink. At this event, participants walk 1.75 miles (1/2 the average distance women and children walk) while carrying an empty bucket. At the halfway point in the walk, participants will gather water from the reflection pond and continue walking until they have walked the entire distance of the walk. After completing the walk, participants will empty their buckets into a water filtration system, which then returns clean water to the reflection pond. Our organization has helped raise $30,000 for Water Mission through this event.
